Expert reviews are quicker to produce and more cost-effective than user testing, because we don’t need to recruit users and co-ordinate testing. We can also assess more features in less time. (In user testing you are limited by the number of features you can test in a session.) Expert reviews can identify sticking points in the customer journey.
However, although an expert review can be very useful, you won’t get the surprising insights that testing something with users always provides. And although we may b e experts in usability and UX, we may not have detailed knowledge of your industry and users’ expectations.
